The Massage Therapist is a licensed professional trained to do Massage Therapy treatments and procedures with the exception of evaluations in the Hospice Clinical Setting. The Massage Therapist duties are performed in accordance with the accepted professional standards of practice, regulations, and agency policy, and under the supervision of the RN Case Manager.


  • Performing therapeutic activities, treatments and procedures planned, delegated and supervised by the RN Case Manager, with the exception of direct wound care in the home setting.
  • Adherence to the patient's plan of care and designated goals.
  • Preparing clinical and progress notes.
  • Participation in coordination with the physician and other disciplines: *MT's may place and accept verbal/telephone physician orders related to their specific discipline under the supervision of the RN Case Manager, and in accordance with the Physician Oral and Telephone Orders policy.
  • Participation in in-service programs.
  • Assessing the patient response to therapy treatments.
  • Participation in educating the patient and family/caregivers.
  • Adaption of the physical environment to maximize comfort for patient.
  • MT supervised by the RN Case Manager with documented daily contact, in which patients are reviewed.
  • The MT will document daily contact or receipt of instructions in Point of Care format.
  • Supervisory visits for MT's are required. Supervisory visits must be completed before the MT resumes treatment.
  • The RN Case Manager will document his or her supervisory evaluation of the MT in point of care format.
  • The MT may utilize the Case Communication Note in point of care format to delegate and provide instruction to the MT related to the patient's plan of care.


  • Must be able to work independently and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic experience using a computer is required.
  • Ability to function as a team member and appropriately seek supervision as needed.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to organize and prioritize and the ability to interact with all levels of staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Must be willing and able to travel between multiple patients
  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma and completion of massage therapy certification.
  • Experience: Previous healthcare experience required. Home care or hospice preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current Massage Therapy license in this State.
